HAABE Teacher of the Month (TOM) Recognition Program

The HAABE Teacher of the Month (TOM) recognition program is dedicated to honoring outstanding bilingual and/or ESL educators who embody the HAABE's mission and values in their service to multilingual and multicultural students, families, and communities.

At HAABE, we are committed to ensuring that EVERY student receives exceptional instruction, equal opportunities, and is held to the highest standards. Our shared values revolve around recognizing the unique strengths and passions of every student, fostering innovation to create inclusive educational options, engaging our community in the learning process, and preparing each student for success in college, careers, and life.

We invite supervisors, fellow educators, parents, and community members to nominate deserving teachers who demonstrate a remarkable commitment to bilingual and ESL education. Whether it's their dedication in the classroom, their advocacy for multilingual students, or their positive impact on the school community, we want to hear about the exceptional educators making a difference.

​All nominees will be acknowledged and celebrated, but each month, our HAABE Executive Board members will carefully select one exemplary teacher based on our guidelines and criteria  to be the HAABE Teacher of the Month award recipient.

HAABE Teacher of the Month (TOM) 
​Guidelines

The guidelines for the HAABE Teacher of the Month (TOM):

1. Eligibility: 
   
   1. The nominated teacher should be a current HAABE member in good standing, and 
      
   2. should hold certification in bilingual and/or ESL education.
      
2. Impact on multilingual students: 
   
   1. The teacher should have demonstrated a significant impact on the academic and/or personal growth of their multilingual students.
      
   2. Evidence of the impact on multilingual students as pictures, academic outcomes, etc.
      
3. Advocacy for multilingual education: 
   
   1. The teacher should have a record of advocacy for multilingual-multicultural school communities, including participation in community events, outreach to families, and/or leadership in bilingual/ESL initiatives.
      
   2. Teacher-parent events
      
4. Nomination process: 
   
   1. Nominations can be made by any HAABE member or student, and should include a brief statement (no more than 300 words) on why the teacher deserves to be recognized as the TOM.
      
5. Selection process: 
   
   1. The HAABE board will review all nominations and select one teacher per month to receive the TOM award. 
      
   2. Selection criteria will include impact on multilingual students, advocacy for multilingual education, and overall quality of teaching.
      
   3. The top-scored nominees will be part of the Social Media contest.
      
6. Recognition: 
   
   1. The selected teacher will receive a certificate of recognition, 
      
   2. a feature on the HAABE website and social media platforms, and
      
   3.  a small gift card to acknowledge their hard work and dedication to multilingual education.
      
7. Repetition of the announcement:
   
   1. The HAABE TOM can be announced ONLY ONCE a year.
